About Tools For Radicals

Tools for Radicals is an independent publication, launched in October 2026 by organizer and long-time lefty Derek Sawyer, that centers around advice/guidance for, reflections relating to, and DIY projects designed for community and political organizers and activists that want to up their game and move the needle even more to the left. I've been an organizer for the better part of six years, having working in the movement for socialism in America since I joined my first community organization in June, 2019.

I spent the pandemic that followed engaging in mutual aide/food rescue work, as well as working as a street medic during the George Floyd uprisings. There's a free membership if you want to get the Newsletter- featuring a tentative rundown for the month's content and lighter, bite-sized bits, gags, and other short-form content- every month. Your donations make this site possible, and allows Tools for Radicals to continue to exist. Thank you!

SUBMISSIONS ARE ACCEPTED AND ENCOURAGED! Are you a cartoonist? We'd love to feature your work in our newsletter! Are you an activist or organizer with stories to share? Maybe you've got questions that need answering- Whatever the case, go ahead and drop us a line and we can chop it up.
